Weedol Rootkill Plus Review

March 24, 2015 By Scott Harper 15 Comments

weedol-rootkill-plus-reviewThe Weedol rootkill plus lets you tackle the weed problem from its very root, resulting in total annihilation of weeds from your garden. It’s available in tubes sizes which are a revolutionary way to remove weeds and contain a liquid concentrated herbicide that is convenient and easy to use.

Simple and effective, the weed killer is available in single-dose plastic tubes. Use it as a concentrate without the need to measure and mix, or use the large tub to mix in the traditional style. Just snap off the top, mix in water and spray. The ideal use is between April to November, and the rootkill is formulated with Glyphosate and Pyraflufen Ethyl.

Available pack sizes Coverage
12 tube carton 360 sq.m
3 tube carton 90 sq.m
8 tube carton 240 sq.m
6 tube carton 180 sq.m
18 tube tub 540 sq.m

The concentrated dilute-it-yourself herbicides are generally very economical and if you don’t like doing all the labor, following precautions, mixing and diluting – the tube is the product for you. The Weedol rootkill plus is formulated with glyphosate and pyraflufen-ethyl and is quick. It gives visible results within hours of its usage and its working time is 24 hours.

It kills the roots of tough perennial weeds so as to hinder any regeneration. It can be easily used around the garden with a sprayer or watering can. The highlighting feature of the rootkill is that it is inactivated as soon as it comes into contact with soil and is readily decomposed by various soil bacteria. This makes re-planting of the desired crops or plants quick and one doesn’t need to wait for more than a week before re-planting.

Overview: Working Mechanism of Weedol Rootkill Plus

The glyphosate and pyraflufen ethyl are known for their systemic action and the concentrate is fast acting. The herbicide, when sprayed on weeds, is absorbed (mostly from the foliage) and is thus fast acting. It spreads with the exchange of fluids in plants and reaches the roots to effectively destroy them.

Suggested Usage

weedol-rootkill-plus-applicationThe Weedol rootkill plus is found to be effective against broad leaved garden weeds and grass-like weeds.

Where to use:

  • Gravel areas, paths and drives
  • Around the base of roses, ornamental shrubs, trees and under hedges (providing they are established with woody bark). Take care to avoid drift.
  • Around sheds and greenhouses
  • Along fences

It’s great for ground clearance before autumn or spring digging and killing old lawns before re-seeding or turfing.

Since this product is not a selective weed killer, we suggest you use the hozelock wonder weeder to apply the spray to ensure you only target the unwanted plants.

Instructions to Remember When Handling This Product

The Rootkill plus is recommended to be used from April to November and is especially effective when the weeds are in their growth stage. Choose a dry, calm day to apply since you may need to re-treat if there is some precipitation within 6 hours of application. It can be used in a water can or a garden sprayer.

Having used the Weedol blue Pathclear crystal sachets to deal with weeks in my gravel drive and crazy paving for a number of years I was disappointed to see that the format had been changed.
Nevertheless, I bought a packet of 8 tubes, at much the same price as the old sachets, assuming that they would be as effective. However, I was dismayed to find that one tubes only makes up 1 litre of solution and it takes four tubes to treat my gravel and paving as opposed to the one sachet that was sufficient before. The old blue crytals worked a treat but I find that the new tubes are much less effective at treating the weeds. I shall have to look for an alternative product since these are expensive and dont do the job.
Do I assume that the chance of formulation is a “health and safety issue” ?

Like Mr Woodward I have always used sachets with no problems and found them extremely economical for my uses, will find an alternative to these tubes for my future requirements.

Weedol 2 was the product described as blue granules and I agree with other posters that it was a great product and gave virtually instant results. Weedol Rootkill takes literally weeks for any noticeable results however it is mixed. I guess that,Weedol 2 was discontinued but I have now seen some listed on Amazon at ridiculous prices unless Platinum is now one of the Ingredients? Please bring it back at a sensible price because Rootkill is not an alternative unless you like looking at weeds for a month before they expire!

I used the weedkiller on a patio made of small paver bricks. How long do I have to keep the cat from walking on it?
